This week is a special Focus Week where we'll be examining the techniques used by experienced system administrators to recover a system or perform special maintainence in unusual circumstances. This will include the use of single-user mode, rescue mode (booted from optical disc), LVM and RAID recovery, and dealing with disk images from other computers.

After an extended hiatus, the Fedora Daily Package is finally back, with new articles each weekday. As always, your package suggestions are welcome, using the Suggest a Package box on the right-hand side of the main page.

Folks have started asking me what's happening with the Fedora Daily Package, because there haven't been any updates for a while. I want to assure you that I haven't give up on the project; I haven't written for a few weeks because I've been swamped with two other projects. I want to share one of these with you: it's the Seneca Free Software and Open Source Symposium (FSOSS 2007). Here are the main details:

Seneca Free Software and Open Source Symposium (FSOSS 2007) What: Open source in person. Two days of the best of open source: development, open source project updates, open content and digital media, legal and licensing issues, future directions for open source, and much more. When: Thursday, October 25 and Friday, October 26. Cost: Thanks to some generous sponsors, this event is very affordable: advance registration is $40, student advance registration is $20, and walk-in registration is $60. This price includes all talks on both days, two lunches, and a reception. A variety of hands-on workshops are also available, for an additional $20 each. Where: Seneca College's gorgeous Seneca@York campus, located at York University, Toronto. (It's a Moriyama & Teshima building...) As for the Fedora Daily Package: postings will resume next week, right after Canadian Thanksgiving after FSOSS after US Thanksgiving.

Due to a busy schedule and the need to find some better video editing tools, I've decided to temporarily stop producing the weekly video summaries. They'll be back this fall.

Today we've published our 100th article! The Fedora Daily Package is now serving about 135,000 hits a week to about 9,000 unique IPs. We had visitors from 43 different countries in our first week, and the list has grown since then.
