this seems overly complicated, I have done this yesterday:
mount the iso file via loopback cp the isolinux/vmlinuz and isolinux/initrd.img file from the iso to the /boot partition update the grub.conf so that vmlinuz is seen on a reboot reboot and select the new entry. The installation starts and ask the install method, select harddrive method and pointing to the partition/directory where the iso is. worked like a charm
That's a great approach, probably best for a single macine where you have a partition with 4-5 GB free that isn't being formatted.
The network install approach is good if you are updating multiple machines, installing from scratch, or don't have enough space free on a partition that isn't going to be formatted.
There is a VMware image for Fedora 7 on thoughtpolice:

Thanks Chris,
I was looking for this, and was in exactly same situation as you were. Thought i will do it myself, trial and eror type. But had less time, and your post helped me lot. - Chandan
Well it work for me. Since DVD Drive wasn't available to me. This is an alternative that work. Most old machine have CD Drive. Thanks
Ki
I'm trying to server the dvd under suse... so I can't use ' setenforce 0'.... I'm getting an access denied error trying to server the Fedora 7 DVD.
This is cracked out! Way, way too complex.
I've got a new windows laptop, and an old mac laptop I want to install fedora 7. Because I don't have a DVD, i grabbed the 'minimal install' CD - but it seems rather pointless if it DOESNT DO A NETWORK INSTALL. Very frustrating.
Hi,
I have 2 SATA Hard drives, one is 320 GB with Windows XP, and another is 160 GB with Windows Vista. I want ti install Fedora 7, which drive is suitable for it, I can partition the HDD myself. Please tell me the full procedure how to select the correct partition. I have AMD 64 Fx 3200+, 1.50 GB DDR2 RAM, Nvidia 7300 GT 512 MB Graphics card, please tell me how can I install it. Is it nesessary for me to create a swap partition, etc. I dont want to loose my essentials data. Waiting!!! Bye take care...
Thanks a million for these instructions.
I have a system with a small hard drive < 3 gigs and it only has a cdrom drive on it (old compaq prolient) Your method worked wonders. Since I already had the dvd as an iso on my file server I just mounted it like you mentioned and made it available on my web server and bingo it started installing. Now to get it to work with pxe regards Dion.
I've recently done just that: Install FC7 just using PXE. Without making any DVD images whatsoever, directly from the internet. The target PC only had network and a harddrive (I'm using it now).
Loosely based on: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Drafts/NetworkInstall This is a birdsview without details. Consult the doc of the software. 1) Set up a DHCP server. 2) Set up a tftp server. 3) Copy pxelinux.bin and configure pxelinux.cfg in the tftproot. (get it from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/ ) 4) Copy initrd.img and vmlinuz from fc7/images/pxeboot to the tftproot 5) Set up a http server (apache). 6) Copy fc7/images/stage2 to the html docroot/images 7) Set up a redirect (using RedirectMatch in .htaccess) in the docroot/Fedora to your favourite Fedora mirror. Strictly speaking, step 5-7 should not be needed, but I landed up downloading the stage2 (90MEG) too many times in the process getting it right. The redirect match turned out to be handy for missing i386 packages in the x86_64 dir on the mirror. Just change the redirection and press retry. It turns out that the mirror trying in the installer doesn't work properly somehow. Happy installing!
great network install guide!!! needed this because my dvd drive was on the fritz and i HAD to reinstall! great! thanks so much!
hey i seem to be having a problem!once i say "install" from the grub screen,i get a blue screen which asks for a driver for my mounting device...i would appreciate any help!ty
