While I like the idea, I think it should be a mixture of both text and video. Describe the program and what it does briefly in text and then demonstrate a particular capability in the video. Bonus points if you show a attractive feature and can make general shows reusable for Fedora Documentation project.
I think it would be great if you display the application name before presenting it. For non native english people, like me, it would be helpful. For example I didn't catch the name of the x window server you used to test the KDE environment inside gnome..
The x window server he showed is Xephyr (http://dailypackage.fedorabook.com/index.php?/archives/116-GUI-Thursday-Xephyr-New-nested-X-server.html)
Really enjoyed the video - the concept of going over the previous week's packages that we've already read about daily, but in one single show where you can see them all in action, is great.
As you said, it would benefit from a higher resolution, if/when that becomes possible.
This is just a BRILLIANT idea.
I love it. I faitfully install every app you talk about, even if I don't really need it , just to see what the excitement is about! I just love your writing, and having a video summary is just the icing on the cake.
Greate. Even thou its hard for non-english speaking, it is very good idea.
Another "very nice" from me.
One thing I would improve is a bit more thorough demonstration of the software. For example, you didn't actually show how the session switcher works. Or is that to do with the software you use to capture the video? A very nice effort that I will look forward to each week.
I would have liked to demonstrate the user-switching more completely, but you're right, the screencasting software won't follow the switch to the new X server. (I could have perhaps done this with a Xen or KVM virtual machine, though ...) I'm trying to find some video editing software that will give me more flexibility in putting the screencasts together, so the quality should improve.
This first screencast was longer than I intended. On one hand I'd like to shorten them up to 2-3 minutes (and reduce the file size by half), but on the other hand it would be nice to have more detail, so I'm not sure which direction to go there. Perhaps if I add the text screens that others are advocating, that will reduce the amount of narration and allow me to shorten the presentation. |
